FAS-Coach Trevor James Morgan is new Sarawak coach

KUCHING Oct 30 - The Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) Thursday announced that former English Premier League (EPL) head coach for Birmingham City, Trevor James Morgan, has officially signed up to become the new coach for Sarawak in next year's Super League.

FAS Secretary Abang Zainuddin Abang Abdul Rahman said the 47-year-old Perth-based coach had signed a one-year contract and would be in Kuching very soon.

"Morgan has good experience as the head coach of several leading football clubs in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Western Australia," he said of the new coach, who was previously the head coach of Senkang Marine Football Club of Singapore from 2001 to this year.

Besides holding a full advanced coaching licence, he is a senior member of the Football Association (FA) Coaches Association based in Australia.

During his younger days, Morgan's 10-year playing career included over 600 EPL and FA Cup games with 200 goals scored.

Among the English Clubs he played for from 1980 to 1990 were AFC Boumernouth, Mansfield Town, Bristol City, Exeter City, Bristol Rovers, Bolton Wanderers and Bolchester United.

He also had short stints at League of Ireland Club Shelbourme, St George Club in Australian National League and at Happy Valley in Hong Kong.

Highly commended by many leading coaches of EPL teams, among his personal references were Ron Atkinson, former Manchester United and Aston Villa manager, Leeds United manager Peter Reid and Phil Brown, the head coach of Bolton Wanderers.

According to Abang Zainuddin, who is also a member of thd FAS team management committee, the new coach has been following the development of the state team during this years' football season very keenly.

"Of course, he has heard good things about us and the way we run the team which is why we were able to secure his services," he said.

He added that FAS was now ready to take the next step of selecting new players from among those attending the trials from Dec 8 onwards.

Sarawak's coach Jalil Rambli was removed as the Crocs coach by FAS and has taken up a new job as development coach.

He was the chief coach for the last five years and his new job is to groom future footballers for FAS.

The 53-year-old former Crocs player, who has a FIFA Super A class licence, said the recent comments and critisms made by certain inviduals against him in the local press were based on "mere emotions."
