Pei Tty-Eei Hui victorious, Kien Keat-Boon Heong settle for silver

VIENTIANE Dec 17 — World no. 5 and national top women”s doubles pair Wong Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui lifted the gold medal in the event at the 25th SEA Games in Laos, while world no. 1 men”s double pair Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong succumbed to the Indonesian pair, in their respective finals today.

In the women”s doubles final, top-seed Pei Tty-Eei Hui won in straight sets 21-11, 21-12 against fourth-seed Shinta Mulia Sari-Yao Lei of Singapore at the Gymnasium 1, National Sports Complex, here.

"This is my second SEA Games” gold after the first one in 2001 in Kuala Lumpur, in which I paired up with a different partner then. For Eei Hui it is her first gold in her first SEA Games appearance,” said Pei Tty.

On their strategy, Pei Tty said knowing that their opponents were not a strong pair, they decided to play on the normal mode and not aggressively.

The bronze medals in the event were won by Savitree Amitrapai-Vacharaporn Munkit of Thailand, and Meiliana Jauhari-Shendy Puspa Irawati of Indonesia.

Meanwhile, in the men”s doubles final, Indonesian pair and world no. 3 men”s doubles pair of Hendra Setiawan-Markis Kido clinched the gold after beating Kien Keat-Boon Heong in straight sets 21-17, 21-17.

The bronze medals were won by another Malaysian pair Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari-Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif, and Bona Septano-Mohammad Ahsan of Indonesia.
